Contrary to what you may have come to believe, due to the high number of Christians posting extremely critical and judgmental posts on social media, it is still wrong to judge others, speak evil of them, and in general spew vitriol about them.
The Bible is against it.
Romans 2:1–3 ESV — Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man — you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself — that you will escape the judgment of God?
Jesus is against it.
Matthew 7:1–5 ESV. — “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
You may protest “But they are wrong! They are sinners and God-haters”. So? Since when does disagreeing with someone give us the right to villianize them? As Christians that is not the way our Lord acted towards those who were sinners and lost. The only harsh words he had were for those that misrepresented God to the people. Aka… the religious.
In fact The Bible has called to a higher standard when it comes to how we interact with others.
Titus 3:2–7 ESV — To speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.”
Remember the fruit of the Spirit is Love.
So… Will they know we are Christians by our Love?
1 John 4:11–12 ESV — Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.
